DR. STEVE INGHAM
Steve has spent his career immersed in high performance having provided support to over 1000 athletes, of which over 200 have achieved World or Olympic medal success, including some of the world’s greatest including Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent. He’s also coached Kelly Sotherton to Olympic and World medal winning success.
Most of this work occurred at the British Olympic Association, where he was Sports Science Manager and the English Institute of Sport as the Director of Science and Technical Development. Steve has worked through 6 Olympic cycles and led the science operation to the Athens, London and Rio Olympics (and is helping the French Institute prepare for their home Games). Steve’s leadership development programmes have received wide acclaim, including Top 3 in The Times 100 Best Companies recognition for personal Development.
Since 2016 Steve has run his own consultancy, Supporting Champions, and consults with elite clients out of Fortius Clinic in London. He now works with organisations including Google, McLaren, Elastic and Samsung on the topic of high performance teams. He has taught at the Warwick Business School and Saïd Business School at Oxford University.
Steve has a BSc in Sports Science and a PhD in Exercise Physiology and he is also a member and Fellow of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.
In addition Steve hosts the Supporting Champions podcast, exploring aspects of human performance and is an author, of which, ‘How to Support a Champion: The art of applying science to the elite athlete’, is a best seller. His next book ‘What Persists’, explores the enduring themes burnished in the world of high performance.
